Your prime responsibility is to ensure that you have a Legionella Risk Assessment of your domestic hot and cold water services and that it is up to date. The risk assessment identifies all site water hot and cold water systems, documents their configuration and internal and external condition, identifies the individual outlets that they feed and identifies the people that may use the systems.
The risk of the Legionella bacteria being able to colonise those systems can then determined and therefore the risk of users from exposure to the bacteria from breathing in contaminated aerosols, droplets or mists generated by the system. The risk assesment therefore becomes the basis upon which an appropraite Legionella Control/Management Scheme is set up and managed to control the risk to an acceptable level.
1) We give advice and guidance to clarify what you need to do to provide a safe working and studying environment for your staff and students and other members of the public who may use your facilities.
2) We can conduct Legionella Risk Assessments of your domestic hot and cold water systems – You must have these in place to substantiate your Legionella management programme.
3) We design and implement site specific Legionella Control Schemes to manage the risk. This is a programme of inspection, sampling, monitoring, cleaning, disinfection and auditing, with record keeping at its core, designed to maintain safe water systems. It can be carried out using your own staff and supplemented by our service engineers if required and is based upon the findings of the risk assessment.
4) We issue Legionella control logbooks within which all scheme documentation and records are kept. The logbook is your evidence of an effective Legionella management scheme when presented to any external auditor or HSE representative.
5) We can conduct independent Legionella Control Audits to evaluate the effectiveness of any Legionella Control Scheme managed by yourselves or others on your premises.
6) We can supply water treatment systems for continual or intermittent disinfection of water systems.
7) We can provide remedial plumbing services to bring your water systems up to the required standards if they are in poor condition.
8) We can sample and test for the presence of Legionella bacteria in water samples using a UKAS accredited microbiological testing laboratory.
